More container ships from the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), one of the world’s largest shipping firms, have begun docking at Vizhinjam Port as the port prepares for its official commissioning at the end of October.
Port authorities have confirmed that trial runs for unloading and loading containers using the newly installed cranes are underway. Following the arrival of MSC’s large vessel “Claude Girardet” last week, a steady flow of ships has started arriving. Officials noted that two vessels of different sizes can berth simultaneously at the port.
On September 19, the vessel “Tavvishi” arrived carrying around 4,000 containers, with the unloading process nearly complete. We expect the “Tavvishi” to depart on Sunday. Additionally, the smaller vessel “Eyra” has also anchored, unloading 200 containers before its return later the same day.
Earlier, the MSC vessel “Eva” visited the port. On Sunday afternoon, two more ships—the 364-meter-long “Rose” and the 223-meter-long “Capetown-3″—are expected to dock. Furthermore, MSC’s massive mothership, “Anna,” measuring 400 meters in length and 58 meters in width, is scheduled to arrive at Vizhinjam Port early on September 25.
